Bromley's Record Turn Out for Barclays Ball Kids

Another year, another supreme turnout at the Bromley Tennis Centre for the fifth regional trial of Barclays Ball Kids 2012. With nearly 300 kids taking part last Saturday, another fourteen kids have now booked their place in the final selection trial at the Westway in London on April 28th.

This was a record breaking day and, with a strong contingent from Kent and London, the quality on show was more exciting than ever. With fast paced action running the tramlines and neat footwork setting out their desire to be a Barclays Ball Kid, all the kids showed immense skill and determination throughout the sessions.

However, as with all the regional trials around the UK, a final group had to be picked to progress to the final selection trial. The fortunate few that stood out from the crowd were Olivia Crowhurst (age 14, from St. Leonards on Sea), Jordan Sullivan (14, Stanford-Le-Hope in Essex), Olivia Sherwen (13, Kemsing in Kent), Georgina Post (11, Honor Oak in London), Vicky Ward (14, West Wickham in Kent), Josiah Simmons (14, Gillingham), Abiola Adeyse (16, Barking), Teta Dieudonne (12, Enfield), Sophie Drakeford-Lewis (13, Sonning), Georgia Lucy (16, Tonbridge), Oliver Clairborne-Dixon (11, Chislehurst), Lucy Sands (13, Beckenham), Samuel Shillabeer (12, Etchingham) and James Varda (11, Loughton).

With just under 3 months until the final selection trial at the Westway in London, the aforementioned kids have secured their place in the final hundred. It’s the chance to battle it out to the end. It’s the opportunity of a lifetime to step out on court with the likes of Britain’s own Andy Murray, the recently crowned Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. Even Federer once trod the tramlines as a ball boy in his younger days at the Swiss Indoors in Basel.

Barclays Ball Kids is a nationwide scheme that has captured the hearts and minds of kids from all over the country and has given a huge array of children the determination to be the best.  So we wait with baited breath to see who will join the fourteen kids from the Bromley trial to be chosen for the final.

With children still signing up for the remaining trials in Birmingham, Oxford, Plymouth, Bristol, Manchester, Nottingham, Lanarkshire and Sunderland, the build-up to the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals is in full swing.
